Rio Frio artist wins first place at Kerr Arts and Cultural Center Juried Member Show
Capturing the essence of the South Texas Coast, Rio Frio-based artist Jeffrey Neel McDaniel recently won first place in the oil on canvas division of the 21st-annual Kerr Arts and Cultural Center Juried Member Show.
Artists choose their best works for entry in this competition, and this year’s show featured a wide range of artists who entered 121 works in six different categories. It was juried by San Antonio-based artist Susan Carlin.
McDaniel is no stranger to earning recognition for his art and sculptures, last year his works were lauded in several competitions, including the South Texas Art League show, the Rockport Art Fest, and the Pleinair Southwest Outdoor Painters Society Annual Competition and Show in Galveston.
Although he is mostly self-taught, he has worked with mentors throughout the years, and he says they have been a good source of wisdom, critique, and friendship.
His palette consists mainly of the South Texas Coast and the Texas Hill Country – the two places he spends most of his time.
